California Privacy Notice

Privacy Notice and Policy for California Users (Business Contacts)


The California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, and its implementing regulations (collectively, the “CPRA”), gives California residents certain rights and requires businesses to make certain disclosures regarding the Processing of Personal Information. This California Privacy Notice and Policy for California Users (Business Contacts) provides supplemental disclosures to those provided in the Website Privacy Notice and applies only to California-resident individuals with whom DLS interacts in a business-related capacity. This Privacy Notice and Policy does not apply to  individuals who are residents of other U.S. states or other countries and/or who do not interact with DLS in a business-related capacity.

Information We Collect

In connection with your use of the Sources, we may collect the categories of personal information listed below about you and other users. In the preceding twelve (12) months, DLS has disclosed personal information about the users of its Sources to the general categories of third parties identified in the chart below.

DLS does not sell your personal information/sensitive personal information and also will not share it with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising.

You are the primary source of the personal information that is collected by DLS when you are accessing the Sources. We may also collect your business contact personal information from joint marketing partners, public databases, providers of demographic data, publications, professional organizations, social media platforms, and Service Providers and Third Parties when they disclose information to DLS.

  • Publicly available information from government records.
  • De-identified or aggregated consumer information.
  • Information excluded from the scope of the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA), like:
    • health or medical information covered by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and the California Confidentiality of Medical Information Act (CMIA) or clinical trial data;
    • personal information covered by certain sector-specific privacy laws, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FRCA), the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) or California Financial Information Privacy Act (FIPA), and the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act of 1994.

How We Use Your Personal Information

DLS and our service providers, collect, process, and disclose your personal information (excluding sensitive personal information) to:

  • Provide you with a service or take an action that you request;
  • Identify and engage scientific and other experts;
  • Identify speakers and invitees to conferences and other scientific and educational programs we host or sponsor;
  • Determine your potential involvement in future activities with DLS and contact you in relation to these activities;
  • Communicate with you when you participate in, or request to be considered to participate in DLS events, research, or other programming;
  • Respond to your requests for information about our products and services;
  • Communicate other information that we think may be of interest to you through our websites and via email, postal mail, and other channels, including promotional communications, about our products and services;
  • Conduct auditing related to our current interactions with you, including counting ad impressions and unique visitors to our website;
  • Tailor our messaging and communications to you, including messaging and communications for promotional purposes;
  • Personalize your website experience;
  • Provide this Privacy Notice and Policy and other informational forms to you in an accessible format as needed;
  • Better understand the market for our existing products and services, and potential new products and services, and adjust our research, development, and marketing strategies accordingly;
  • Detect security incidents and other fraudulent activity;
  • Monitor and improve our website functionality and security;
  • Conduct business and marketing research;
  • Meet our contractual obligations to you, if you provide us with products or services;
  • Analyze the quality of products and services provided, including by analyzing call recordings;
  • Monitor and secure our facilities, equipment, and other property;
  • Process and manage contracts and other written agreements we may enter with you and the companies for which you work;
  • Comply with laws and regulations, including, without limitation, applicable tax, health and safety, anti-discrimination, immigration, labor and employment, and social welfare laws;
  • Monitor, investigate, and enforce compliance with and potential breaches of DLS policies and procedures and legal and regulatory requirements;
  • Comply with civil, criminal, judicial, or regulatory inquiries, investigations, subpoenas, or summons; and
  • Exercise or defend the legal rights of DLS and its employees, affiliates, customers, contractors, and agents

DLS and our Service Providers, will only use sensitive personal information for the purposes described below that are also authorized by the CPRA and its implementing regulations:

  • Performing the services or providing the products reasonably expected by an average business contact who requests those products or services;
  • Ensuring security and integrity to the extent the use of your personal information is reasonably necessary and proportionate for these purposes;
  • Preventing, detecting, and investigating security incidents that compromise the availability, authenticity, integrity, or confidentiality of stored or transmitted personal information;
  • Resisting malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal actions directed at DLS and prosecuting those responsible for those actions;
  • Ensuring the physical safety of natural persons;
  • Short-term, transient use, including, but not limited to, nonpersonalized advertising shown as part of your current interaction with us; provided that we will not disclose your personal information to a Third Party and/or build a profile about you or otherwise alter your experience outside the current interaction with DLS;
  • Performing services on our behalf, including maintaining or servicing accounts, providing customer service, processing or fulfilling orders and transactions, verifying customer information, processing payments, providing financing, providing analytic services, providing storage, or providing similar services on our behalf; and
  • Collecting or processing sensitive personal information where such collection or processing is not for the purpose of inferring characteristics about you.

Retention and Deletion

Except as otherwise permitted or required by applicable law or regulation, we will only retain your personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes for which we collected it, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements, including to provide products/services to you. Under some circumstances we may anonymize your personal information so that it can no longer be associated with you. We reserve the right to use such anonymous data for any legitimate business purpose without further notice to you or your consent. Once you are no longer an employee of DLS we will retain and securely destroy your personal information in accordance with our data retention processes and applicable laws and regulations.

Your Rights Under the CPRA

You have the following rights under the CPRA:

  • To request deletion of the personal information you provided to DLS (but note that DLS may not be required to comply with a request for deletion, and we will provide you with the reasons if any request to delete is denied)
  • To request that DLS correct inaccurate personal information about you
  • To request what personal information DLS has collected, used and disclosed about you
  • To request to know what personal information is sold to or shared with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising purposes and also to opt out from such sales or sharing
  • To opt-out of the sale and sharing of your personal information and to limit the use of your sensitive personal information. NOTE THAT WE WILL NOT SELL OR SHARE ANY OF THE CATEGORIES OF PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT ABOUT BUSINESS CONTACTS, AND WE HAVE NOT SOLD OR SHARED ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS.

Should you want to exercise any of these rights, please send an email to or call DLS’s Privacy Office at (800) 461-9330. You may authorize an agent to make a data subject rights request on your behalf, and your authorized agent may also do so via these submission methods. We may ask you to provide information that will enable us to verify your identity in order to comply with your data subject request. In particular, if you authorize an agent to make a request on your behalf, we may require the agent to provide proof of signed permission from you to submit the request, or we may require you to verify your own identity to us or confirm with us that you provided the agent with permission to submit the request. In some instances, we may decline to honor your request if an exception applies under the CPRA. We will respond to your request consistent with applicable law.

DLS does not provide financial incentives to California business contacts who allow us to retain, Sell, or Share their personal information. We will separately describe such programs if and when we offer them to you.

Changes to This Privacy Notice and Policy

We reserve the right to update this Privacy Notice and Policy at any time. Any updated Privacy Notice and Policy will be made available, at a minimum, on the Sources.
