Colony forming cell (CFC) assays, in semi-solid matrices using HSC have been employed to assess potential toxicity of xenobiotics on the blood and bone marrow systems. In many cases there were direct correlations between in vitro data sets and clinical neutropenia/thrombocytopenia.
